Stainless Steel 446 Flanges are designed to meet one of the toughest tasks in industrial piping - extreme heat. Grade 446 (UNS S44600 / DIN 1.4762) is a ferritic stainless steel flange that contains 23-27% chromium, which makes it the most resistant to oxidation of any grade in the 400-series. It can also operate at continuous service temperatures up to 1149 C (2100 F), and is therefore the product of choice in furnaces, burners, kilns, boilers, and thermal processing systems where the 304 or 316 flanges just can not work. SS 446 also has sulfurous gas attack and scaling resistance in high-heat conditions, unlike austenitic grades. Amardeep Steel is a supplier of ASTM A182 F446 flanges in all forms and pressure categories - 1/2 to 48 NB, fully certified with the mill.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are Stainless Steel 446 flanges?
Stainless Steel 446 flanges are high-temperature pipe fittings made from ferritic stainless steel with high chromium content, designed to connect piping systems in extreme heat and oxidizing environments.
What is ASTM A182 F446 flange specification?
ASTM A182 F446 is a standard that covers forged Stainless Steel 446 flanges for high-temperature and high-pressure applications, ensuring strength, durability, and oxidation resistance.
What is UNS S44600 material?
UNS S44600 is the material designation for Stainless Steel 446, a ferritic stainless steel known for its excellent oxidation resistance and performance in high-temperature environments.
What are the properties of SS 446 flanges?
SS 446 flanges offer high oxidation resistance, excellent performance in sulfurous atmospheres, resistance to scaling, and the ability to withstand very high temperatures without deformation.
What is the temperature range of Stainless Steel 446?
Stainless Steel 446 can handle continuous service temperatures up to 1149°C (2100°F) and intermittent temperatures up to 1038°C (1900°F), making it ideal for extreme heat applications.
What is 475°C embrittlement in SS 446?
Prolonged exposure of SS 446 in the 400–500°C (752–932°F) range causes 475°C embrittlement, a precipitation reaction that reduces toughness and ductility. SS 446 is not recommended for continuous service at this temperature range. It is specified for service above 815°C (1500°F) or at ambient temperatures, not for the intermediate range.
