What is MP35N Alloy Round Bar?

The MP35N superalloy is made of nickel and cobalt and is not magnetic. It is renowned for having outstanding mechanical properties. The MP35N name comes from its unique structure that is referred to as a "multiphase" structure. MP35N has the unique combination of work-hardening (also known as strain-hardening) and has aging heat treatment to give it high strength. Unlike typical heat-treatable alloys, the MP35N Alloy remains highly ductile and tough even at its highest strength levels, preventing brittle failure under extreme stress. This advanced material, sometimes sought by engineers as a superior alternative to specialty MP35N alloy steel bars, provides a level of performance that conventional steels cannot match.

Heat Treatment of MP35N Round Bars

The exceptional strength of MP35N Round Bars is developed through a controlled, multi-step process involving heat treatment and mechanical work.

  1. Solution Annealing (The "Soft" State)
    First, the material is solution annealed by heating it to 1850-2150°F (1010-1177°C) and then rapidly cooled. This creates a uniform, ductile structure (conforming to AMS 5758) that is ideal for forming and machining.
  2. Strengthening Process (Two-Step)

The aging temperature is adjusted based on the application: lower temperatures for maximum strength (AMS 5844) and higher temperatures for maximum corrosion resistance in sour gas environments (NACE MR0175).
