JIS G 3445 Grade STKM 11A Carbon Steel Seamless Tubes, also known as mild steel pipes and tubes, are low-cost
tubes with a maximum carbon content of 0.12% and a maximum manganese content of 0.60%. These tubes are easy to
form and shape and are manufactured according to JIS specifications. They are commercially referred to as CS
pipes or MS pipes. Compared to high carbon steel pipes, low carbon steel pipes are not as hard, although their
surface hardness can be increased through carburizing.
JIS G3445 STKM11A steel contains a small amount of silicon (Si) and manganese (Mn) in addition to carbon (C) and
deoxidation (usually not more than 0.80%, up to 1.20%). This steel must have a chemical composition as well as
mechanical qualities. The concentration of sulfur (S) and phosphorus (P) impurities is typically kept below
0.035%. High-quality steel has P and S controlled below 0.025% and 0.020%, respectively, and its grade should be
appended with "E" for distinction. Other residual alloy elements introduced into steel by raw materials, such as
chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and copper (Cu), are typically managed to be less than 0.25% chromium, 0.30% nickel,
and 0.25% copper. Some brands of manganese (Mn) steel have a manganese (Mn) content of 1.40%.
JIS G3445 STKM11A steel is widely used due to its high production and cost-effectiveness. It can be forged into
various shapes such as round, square, and flat sections, plates, and seamless steel tubes. The steel is commonly
used in the manufacturing of general structural and mechanical structural parts, building structural components,
and pipes for fluid conveyance. Depending on the application, heat treatment such as normalizing or quenching
