Tantalum is highly resistant to corrosion, especially against chemicals at temperatures below 150°C, and can only be dissolved by hydrofluoric acid. It has the fourth highest melting point among metals, with only tungsten and rhenium having higher points. Tantalum melts at around 2,996°C. Pure tantalum begins to recrystallize, or change structure, at about 1,204°C (2200°F).
