Stainless Steel Seamless Buttweld Fittings, Carbon Steel & Alloy Steel Manufacturer
Amardeep Steel Centre manufactures Seamless Buttweld Pipe Fittings to ASME B16.9 / ASTM A403 across the complete range of material grades stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, duplex, and copper nickel. Our seamless pipe fittings are manufactured from solid billets or seamless tube by hot extrusion and forging — no weld line is ever present. This produces a homogeneous, isotropic grain structure with consistent mechanical properties in all directions, making seamless fittings the first-choice specification for high-pressure, high-temperature, and safety-critical piping systems worldwide. With over 25 years of manufacturing experience and ISO 9001:2015 certification, we have supplied seamless buttweld fittings to EPC contractors and process plants across 40+ countries.
Seamless vs Welded Buttweld Fittings — Key Differences
Choosing between seamless buttweld pipe fittings and welded fittings depends on service pressure, fluid type, and applicable codes. This comparison highlights the most critical differences.
Seamless Fittings
Manufactured by hot extrusion or forging from a solid billet — no weld seam exists at any point. The result is a uniform grain structure with identical mechanical properties in all directions.
- No weld seam — eliminates the most common failure point in welded fittings
- Higher pressure rating — full parent metal strength without weld joint efficiency
reduction
- Superior corrosion resistance — absence of heat-affected zone (HAZ)
- Smoother bore — improved flow characteristics and cleanability
- No radiographic inspection required — reduces inspection cost and lead time
- Uniform wall thickness — consistent cross-section throughout
- Size range: ½″ to 24″ NB (standard seamless range)
- Best for high-pressure, high-temperature, hazardous, cryogenic, nuclear, and cyclic services
Welded / Fabricated Fittings
Formed from rolled plate or ERW pipe and longitudinally welded. A weld seam is always present.
- Weld seam present — potential variation vs base metal
- Lower pressure rating — weld efficiency factor reduces allowable pressure
- HAZ susceptibility — risk of localized corrosion
- Internal weld bead — may require finishing in hygienic applications
- Radiographic testing required — weld seam inspection mandatory
- Lower cost — especially for larger diameters
- Wider size range: up to 48″ NB and above
- Best for large diameter, low-pressure, and cost-sensitive applications
WP
Standard designation — manufacturer may supply either construction at discretion

How Seamless Buttweld Pipe Fittings Are Manufactured
Seamless fittings are produced from seamless pipe or solid billet stock through one of three primary forming processes. Understanding the process helps specify the correct product for your service conditions.
Hot Extrusion
Solid billets are heated to forging temperature and pushed through a die to form the fitting geometry — elbows, tees, or reducers. Hot extrusion is the primary process for seamless fittings in standard sizes. The billet never has a weld seam at any point during manufacture.
Cold Forming
Seamless pipe sections are cold-pressed or draw-formed into the required fitting geometry at ambient temperature. Cold forming is used for smaller sizes and thinner schedules where hot extrusion is less economical. The process preserves the seamless character of the parent material.
Finish Machining & Heat Treatment
Rough-formed fittings are finish-machined to dimensional tolerances per ASME B16.9. All stainless steel grades are then solution annealed at 1040–1150°C and rapidly quenched. Carbon and alloy steel grades are normalised or normalised + tempered. Fittings are then bevelled per ASME B16.25, pickled, passivated, marked per MSS SP-25, and inspected before dispatch.
Applications of Seamless Buttweld Pipe Fittings
Seamless Buttweld Pipe Fittings are preferred wherever weld seams present a risk. These Seamless SS Buttweld Fittings are widely used in:
- Oil & Gas Refineries
- Nuclear Power Plants
- Power Generation Systems
- Petrochemical & Refinery Units
- Pharmaceutical & Biotech Industries
- Cryogenic Applications

Frequently Asked Questions — Seamless Buttweld Pipe Fittings
What is the difference between seamless (WPS) and welded (WPW) buttweld fittings?
Seamless fittings (WPS) are manufactured from seamless pipe or solid billet with no weld seam, providing uniform grain structure and higher burst pressure. Welded fittings (WPW) are made from welded pipe and are suitable for lower-pressure, non-critical applications. For high-pressure, sour service, or NACE-compliant systems, always specify WPS.
What is the difference between seamless and welded stainless buttweld fittings?
Seamless fittings are made by hot extrusion or forging from solid billets — no weld seam exists. Welded fittings are formed from plate and longitudinally welded. Seamless fittings provide a uniform grain structure throughout, higher pressure ratings (no weld efficiency factor), and better integrity for critical or hazardous service applications. They are specified wherever weld zone failure risk is unacceptable — high pressure, toxic/flammable media, cryogenic, and nuclear service.
How do I specify seamless construction under ASTM A403?
To ensure seamless construction, you must specify the WPS designation in your purchase order (e.g., ASTM A403 WPS 316L). The standard “WP” designation allows the manufacturer to supply either welded or seamless fittings. Specifying WPS guarantees that only Seamless Buttweld Pipe Fittings are supplied.
What is the maximum size available in seamless stainless buttweld fittings?
Seamless stainless steel buttweld pipe fittings are typically manufactured in sizes ranging from ½″ NB up to 24″ NB. For sizes above 24″ NB, fittings are generally produced as welded or fabricated due to manufacturing limitations of seamless processes.
Do seamless buttweld fittings comply with ASME B31.3 requirements?
Yes, Seamless Buttweld Pipe Fittings fully comply with ASME B31.3 Process Piping Code when manufactured to applicable standards such as ASME B16.9 and ASTM A403. In fact, seamless construction is often preferred in ASME B31.3 Category M and high-pressure fluid services due to the absence of a weld seam and higher reliability.
Do seamless fittings require radiographic inspection?
No, seamless pipe fittings do not require radiographic testing for weld seams because no weld is present. However, other inspections such as ultrasonic testing (UT), PMI, hydrostatic testing, and dimensional inspection may still be performed as per project specifications or client requirements.
