Amardeep Steel Center is a certified manufacturer and global exporter of Stainless Steel 316 Pipe Fittings and Stainless Steel 316L Pipe Fittings, supplying industries across the USA, UAE, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Our 316 SS pipe fittings conform to ASTM A403 WP316 and ASTM A403 WP316L standards, covering buttweld, seamless, and fabricated forms in sizes from 1/2 inch to 48 inch and schedules SCH 10S to SCH 160. The 2-3% molybdenum content in 316 SS fittings provides superior resistance to chlorides and industrial acids making them the preferred choice for marine, chemical, and pharmaceutical applications. Whether you need 316 SS fittings for high-pressure service or 316L pipe fittings for welded assemblies, Amardeep Steel delivers certified quality with fast global dispatch.
What Are Stainless Steel 316/316L Pipe Fittings?
316/316L Pipe Fittings are components used to connect, control, and change the direction of piping systems. What makes them special is the addition of molybdenum to their chemical composition. This key element gives them significantly enhanced corrosion resistance compared to the more common 304 grade, particularly against chlorides and other industrial chemicals. This makes them the go-to choice for marine applications, chemical processing, and other harsh environments. The two primary grades in this family are:
- Stainless Steel 316 Pipe Fittings (SS 316 Pipe Fittings): This is the standard molybdenum-bearing grade. It offers excellent strength and outstanding corrosion resistance in a wide range of aggressive environments.
- Stainless Steel 316L Pipe Fittings (SS 316L Pipe Fittings): The 'L' stands for low carbon. This variant is designed for welded applications. The reduced carbon content in 316L stainless steel fittings minimizes harmful carbide precipitation during welding, which prevents corrosion at the weld seam. This makes it the preferred material for heavy-gauge welded components that cannot be heat-treated after fabrication.
These products are governed by standards like ASTM A403, with designations such as ASTM A403 WP316 fittings and ASTM A403 WP316L fittings. This ensures they meet the strict chemical and mechanical requirements for pressure piping systems.

Heat Treatment of Stainless Steel 316/316L Pipe Fittings
All Stainless Steel 316/316L Pipe Fittings are supplied in a solution-annealed condition. This process involves heating the fittings to a temperature between 1040°C and 1120°C (1900°F and 2050°F) and then rapidly cooling (quenching) them. This critical treatment relieves manufacturing stresses, dissolves any harmful carbides, and restores the material's maximum corrosion resistance and toughness.
Welding of 316/316L Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings
Recommended welding processes include TIG (GTAW), MIG (GMAW), SMAW, and FCAW. Use ER316L filler wire to maintain low-carbon content at the weld zone and prevent sensitisation. For heavy-gauge components that cannot be post-weld annealed, specify 316L grade fittings.
Dimensional Tolerances of 316/316L Pipe Fittings
All fittings are manufactured to the precise dimensional standards of ASME B16.9 (buttweld fittings) and ASME B16.11 (forged fittings), ensuring every dimension — from center-to-face measurement to bevel angle — guarantees easy installation and reliable, leak-free performance.

Frequently Asked Questions – Stainless Steel 316 Pipe Fittings & 316L Pipe Fittings
1. What is the difference between SS 316 and SS 316L pipe fittings?
The key difference is carbon content. SS 316 fittings allow up to 0.08% carbon, while SS 316L is limited to 0.03% max. The lower carbon in 316L prevents sensitization (carbide precipitation) at weld heat-affected zones, making 316L the preferred choice for welded assemblies that cannot be post-weld annealed. For non-welded applications, both grades perform identically in corrosion resistance.
2. What standard governs stainless steel 316 pipe fittings?
SS 316 and 316L buttweld pipe fittings are manufactured to ASTM A403 (WP316 / WP316L) and the equivalent ASME SA403. Dimensional standards include ASME/ANSI B16.9 (buttweld), ASME B16.28 (short radius), and MSS-SP-43 (light-wall). Forged fittings follow ASTM A182 / ASME SA182.
3. What sizes are available in 316 SS pipe fittings?
Amardeep Steel supplies 316 SS pipe fittings in seamless form from ½" to 10" NB and in welded / fabricated form from ½" to 48" NB. Schedules range from SCH 5S through SCH 160 and XXS. Forged fittings are available in ¼" to 4" with pressure classes of 2000, 3000, 6000, and 9000 LBS.
4. Are 316L stainless steel pipe fittings suitable for marine applications?
Yes. 316L pipe fittings are one of the most reliable stainless choices for marine environments. The 2–3% molybdenum content significantly improves resistance to chloride pitting — the primary corrosion mechanism in seawater. They are widely used in offshore platforms, desalination plants, ship fittings, and coastal infrastructure.
5. What certifications come with Amardeep Steel 316/316L fittings?
Every shipment comes with a Mill Test Certificate (MTC) as per EN 10204 3.1. EN 10204 3.2 is available on request. Amardeep Steel is ISO 9001:2015 certified. Third-party inspection by TUV, DNV, SGS, and Lloyd's can be arranged on request along with full documentation: QAP, heat treatment charts, raw material test reports, packing list, and guarantee letter.
6. How do I care for and maintain stainless steel 316 pipe fittings?
316/316L fittings require minimal maintenance. Periodically rinse with clean water to remove surface deposits, especially in marine or chloride-heavy environments. Avoid contact with carbon steel tools or surfaces that can cause iron contamination. For stubborn staining, clean with a dilute nitric acid solution or proprietary stainless steel cleaner. Never use chloride-based cleaners on 316/316L fittings.
7. What are the equivalent material grades for Stainless Steel 316 pipe fittings?
Stainless Steel 316 fittings are known by several designations across international standards: UNS S31600 (American), WNR 1.4401 (European), JIS SUS 316 (Japanese), and BS 316S31 (British). Our fittings are supplied with MTC documentation that cross-references the applicable standard for your jurisdiction.
