A socket weld fitting is a pipe fitting that works by consisting of a pipe fitting inserted into a recessed socket of the fitting, and is fillet-welded around the joint. This design provides a robust connection that is leak-free, particularly in small-diameter and high-pressure piping systems. Unlike common types of stainless steel, like SS 312, SS 321 socket weld fittings are more stable at higher temperatures since they are titanium stabilized to prevent carbide precipitation during welding.
Stainless Steel 321 Forged Fittings have about 17 -19% chromium and 9-12% nickel, and with titanium added to the alloy, which increases intergranular corrosion and oxidation resistance. The 321H type offers greater carbon content to enhance high-temperature strength. These fittings are produced to meet the requirements of ASTM A182 and ASME B16.11 standards, and can be used in refineries, petrochemical plants, heat exchangers, and power generation units.
