Turbo Chill Fin Tubes

Turbo Chill Fin Tubes

Turbo Chill Fin Tubes Manufacturer in India

A turbo chill fin tube is an integral low fin tube that carries spiral ridges on the inside of the tube as well as fins on the outside. The outside fins do the job an ordinary finned tube already does; they add surface area so more heat can move between the tube wall and the surrounding air or fluid. The inside ridges do something an ordinary finned tube cannot, they stir up the fluid flowing through the bore, breaking up the slow-moving layer that normally clings to a smooth tube wall and forcing that fluid to keep mixing as it travels down the length of the tube. With both surfaces working at once, a turbo chill fin tube pulls noticeably more heat out of the inside fluid than a smooth bore tube of the same outer fin design ever could, which is exactly why it was developed in the first place for demanding freezing and chilling duty.

Amardeep Steel Centre manufactures turbo chill fin tubes in copper alloy and steel base tube options, finished and hydro-tested to order for chillers, freezing machinery and industrial heat recovery equipment.

Fin density and fin height outside this table can be produced to match a specific heat exchanger design, and the ridge starts on the inside are specified independently of the outer fin pattern, so the same base tube size can be finished with different combinations of the two depending on the duty.

Applications and Industries for Turbo Chill Finned Tubes

Frequently Asked Questions - Turbo Chill Finned Tubing

What are turbo chill fin tubes?

A turbo chill fin tube is an integral low fin tube with spiral ridges rolled into the inside of the bore in addition to the fins on the outside. The internal ridges improve heat transfer on the inside fluid side, while the external fins do the same job on the outside, giving the tube better overall heat transfer than a plain finned tube of the same outer fin design.

How does internal ridging improve heat transfer in a turbo chill tube?

The spiral ridges disrupt the slow-moving boundary layer of fluid that normally forms against a smooth tube wall, forcing the fluid to swirl and mix as it travels down the tube. This keeps fresh fluid in contact with the tube surface instead of letting an insulating layer build up, which raises the inside heat transfer coefficient noticeably compared with a smooth-bore tube.

What materials are turbo chill fin tubes available in?

We supply turbo chill fin tubes in copper alloy C12200, copper nickel 70600 and 71500, and in carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy steel base tubes for higher pressure or higher temperature duty beyond what copper alloys are suited to.

What is a ridge start, and how many are standard?

A start is one spiral ridge that begins at one end of the tube and runs its full length on the inside of the bore. Eight and ten starts are the standard configurations, though other start counts can be produced to match a specific heat exchanger design.

What is the maximum working pressure and temperature for turbo chill fin tubes?

This depends on the base tube material and wall thickness. Copper alloy versions suit moderate pressure refrigeration and chiller duty, while steel base tube options extend the construction to working pressures above 50 bar and temperatures above 400 degrees Celsius. Confirm the exact rating for your specific material and wall thickness combination before specifying a pressure-critical application.

Which industries use turbo chill fin tubes?

Freezing machinery, chillers and refrigeration plants, HVAC systems, industrial heat recovery equipment, and petrochemical and power generation processes all use turbo chill fin tube wherever improved dual-side heat transfer justifies the added cost over a standard finned tube.

Are turbo chill fin tubes tested before dispatch?

Yes. Every tube is hydro-tested after the finning and ridging operation to confirm it is free of defects, and dimensional and visual inspection confirms the fin and ridge pattern match the agreed specification before the tube leaves our facility.
