Amardeep steel centre manufactures, exports and supplies ASTM A790 UNS S32760 Super duplex stainless steel pipes and tubes in both seamless and welded, in schedules SCH 5 to SCH XXS with OD ranging between 6mm to 250mm. UNS S32760 (Werkstoff 1.4501, F55) is a very high alloyed super duplex material with a Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) above 40, intended to be used in aggressive chloride and sour gas environments like offshore oil and gas, desalination and seawater systems.
These Super Duplex UNS S32760 Pipes and Tubes come in various shapes such as welded, ERW, EFW and fabricated, square, rectangular, spiral, U-shape and hydraulic.
Super Duplex UNS S32760 is a austenitic-ferritic stainless steel that is highly resistant to both, pitting and crevice corrosion. ASTM A790 UNS S32760 Pipes are very popular in offshore and marine because of their high resistance to chlorides and acidic environments, and ASTM A789 UNS S32760 Tubes offer a high level of mechanical strength, excellent welding and service in harsh environments.
It has a high tensile strength (at least 750 MPa), which makes it ideal in high-stress conditions that demand a long-lasting performance. It is also very fatigue resistant and also can be loaded cyclically without compromising performance.
Super Duplex S32760 is excellent in general, pitting and crevice corrosion, and can be used in challenging environments with seawater and corrosive chemicals.
These pipes offer excellent weldability and can be fabricated using TIG, MIG and SMAW processes. They also offer good machinability enabling them to cut and shape accurately according to the project needs.
WNR. 1.4501 pipes are highly resistant to high temperatures and can be used effectively at temperatures up to 300o C, thus suitable to heat exchangers, boilers and pressure vessels.
These types of pipes are very popular in industries that include oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical processing, power generation, marine engineering, pulp and paper, desalination plants as well as flue gas desulfurization systems.

Request a QuoteSuper Duplex Steel S32760 Pipes Key Properties
- PREN above 40: Super Duplex stainless steels exhibit a Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) higher than 40, classifying them in the highest tier of corrosion resistance.
- Combines the most desirable characteristics of both super-ferritic and super-austenitic steel.
- Has excellent resistance to chloride SCC, pitting, crevice and general corrosion and carbide related intergranular corrosion.
- Possesses high strength and high impact strength.
- Has high thermal conductivity and a lower coefficient of thermal expansion compared to super austenitic steels.
Fabricability of UNS S32760 Pipes
- Should be hot worked in the range of 1000 to 1250 degrees C, followed by solution annealing at 1100 degrees C and rapid quench.
- Can be cold formed using methods similar to those commonly used for stainless steel. The high yield strength requires higher forming forces, increased bend radius and increased allowance for spring back.
- Deep drawing, stretch forming and similar processes are difficult to perform.
Weldability and Fabrication of UNS S32760 Pipes
- Possesses good weldability and can be welded to itself and other materials by Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Plasma Arc Welding (PAW) or Submerged Arc Welding (SAW).
- Surfaces must be clean before welding.
- Preheating is not necessary except to prevent condensation on cold metal.
- The recommended heat input should be approximately 0.3 to 1.5 kJ/mm.
- The interpass temperature should not exceed 150 degrees C.
- The root should be shielded with commercial Ar or 90% N2 / 10% H2 purging gas for maximum corrosion resistance.
- No post-weld heat treatment is required for standard sections. For heavy sections it is recommended.
- Filler metal: Use matching super duplex consumables such as ER2594 for best results.
Corrosion Resistance of S32760 Pipes
- Highly resistant to carbide related intergranular corrosion due to its low carbon content, which lowers the risk of carbide precipitation at grain boundaries during heat treatment.
- Critical Pitting Temperature (CPT) is superior to that of 904L.
- Excellent resistance to crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking (SCC).
- Extremely resistant to uniform corrosion by organic acids such as formic and acetic acid, and to inorganic acids, especially those containing chlorides.
- Excellent corrosion resistance against highly corrosive acids such as sulphuric, nitric and phosphoric acids.
UNS S32760 vs UNS S32750 Key Differences
Both grades are super duplex steels with PREN above 40 and similar mechanical properties. UNS S32760 contains added copper (0.5 to 1%) and tungsten, delivering marginally higher corrosion resistance in reducing acid environments. UNS S32750 has slightly higher yield strength. For seawater and sour gas applications, S32760 (Zeron 100, F55) is often the preferred specification. For the closely related grade, see our UNS S32750 Super Duplex Pipes and Tubes page
Industries and Applications for Super Duplex UNS S32760 Pipes
- Oil and Gas: Subsea flowlines, production manifolds and injection systems where H2S partial pressure and chloride concentration exceed the tolerance of standard duplex 2205.
- Petrochemical Industries: Polymerization reactor cycle pumps and pipework handling corrosive media at elevated temperatures.
- Offshore Platforms: Heat exchangers, process and service water systems, fire-fighting systems and injection and ballast water systems exposed to uninhibited seawater.
- Desalination Plants: High-pressure reverse osmosis piping and brine heater tubing. S32760s critical pitting temperature exceeding 50 degrees C makes it the preferred grade for this service.
- Chemical Process Industries: Shell-and-tube heat exchangers and vessels handling acidic or chloride-rich process streams.
- Fertilizers: Recirculation tanks, sedimentation tanks and phosphate reactor recirculation pumps.
- Power Industry FGD Systems: Absorber towers, ducting and piping in flue gas desulphurisation plants handling wet SO2 scrubbing, a highly corrosive environment where 316L fails.
- Utility and Industrial Scrubber Systems: Absorber towers, ducting and piping.
- Mining and Extraction: Hot slurry pipework and acid leach mining applications.
- Sewage: Critically important pipelines where corrosion failure is not an option.
- Engineering Applications: Pressure vessels, centrifuges, agitators, valves and pumps where high strength reduces wall thickness, lowering equipment weight without sacrificing corrosion performance.

Frequently Asked Questions about UNS S32760 Super Duplex Pipes
What is the PREN value of UNS S32760 and why does it matter?
The PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) of UNS S32760 is above 40, calculated as %Cr + 3.3 x %Mo + 16 x %N. A PREN above 40 is the threshold for super duplex classification and indicates strong resistance to pitting in aggressive chloride environments such as seawater and brine.
What is the difference between ASTM A790 and ASTM A789 for UNS S32760?
ASTM A790 covers seamless and welded ferritic/austenitic stainless steel pipe for general service, while ASTM A789 covers seamless and welded tubing for general service. Both apply to UNS S32760. For pressure piping, A790/SA790 is the standard specification.
What is the maximum operating temperature for UNS S32760 pipes?
UNS S32760 is generally limited to a maximum continuous service temperature of approximately 300 degrees C. Above this temperature, precipitation of intermetallic phases can reduce toughness. For cryogenic service, impact energy remains acceptable down to approximately minus 50 degrees C.
Can UNS S32760 pipes be used instead of UNS S32750 (2507)?
Yes. Both grades are super duplex with PREN above 40 and similar mechanical properties. S32760 has added copper and tungsten for improved performance in reducing acids. S32750 has slightly higher yield strength. Specify S32760 (F55/Zeron 100) where mixed acid or reducing environments are present.
