Stainless Steel 310H Pipes & Tubes

Stainless Steel 310H (UNS S31009) is a high-carbon version of the austenitic 310 grade with carbon content controlled between 0.04% and 0.10%. The higher carbon content significantly improves creep resistance and tensile strength at elevated temperatures compared to 310S, which has a maximum carbon content of 0.08% optimised for general corrosion resistance. TP310H is the preferred choice for continuous high-temperature service above 800 C.

TP310H is the ASTM pipe and tube designation for Stainless Steel 310H. "TP" stands for Tube/Pipe product form, "310" is the alloy series, and "H" indicates high carbon for enhanced high-temperature strength. TP310H is covered under ASTM A312 for pipes, ASTM A213 for seamless boiler and heat exchanger tubes, and ASTM A269 for general-service tubing. The UNS number for TP310H is S31009.

ASTM A312 TP310H covers seamless, straight-seam welded, and heavily cold-worked welded austenitic stainless steel pipes. It specifies chemical composition, mechanical property requirements, heat treatment, and testing requirements including hydrostatic or nondestructive electric test, flattening, and bend tests. Pipes may also be ordered to ASME SA312 for pressure vessel and boiler applications. Mill test certificates to EN 10204 3.1 are supplied as standard.

ASTM A213 TP310H covers seamless tubes for boilers, superheaters, and heat exchangers requiring elevated temperature strength. ASTM A269 TP310H covers seamless and welded tubing for general corrosive and high-temperature service including instrumentation and fluid handling. Both are used in petrochemical cracking furnaces, ethylene reformers, heat treatment equipment, power generation boilers, and high-temperature industrial processes where oxidation resistance is critical.

Stainless Steel 310H Pipes (UNS S31009) are rated for continuous service up to approximately 1050 C and intermittent service up to approximately 1100 C. The high chromium (24-26%) and nickel (19-21%) content provides outstanding resistance to oxidation and scaling at these temperatures. The elevated carbon content compared to 310 and 310S ensures superior creep rupture strength in long-duration high-temperature applications such as furnace radiant tubes and reformer components.

Seamless TP310H stainless steel pipes are manufactured without a weld seam, making them the preferred option for high-pressure, high-temperature, and critical service applications. Welded TP310H pipes including ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) and EFW (Electric Fusion Welded) are suitable for lower-pressure applications and offer cost advantages in larger diameters. Both types are available under ASTM A312 TP310H and meet the same chemical and mechanical property requirements.

IBR (Indian Boiler Regulations) certification is also available for applicable sizes.

UNS S31009 (Stainless Steel 310H) does not have direct equivalents in JIS, AFNOR, BS, GOST, or EN standards. However, it is closely related to EN 1.4828 (X15CrNiSi20-12) and the broader 310-family austenitic grades.
