15Mo3 pipes and tubes are used in boilers, superheaters and high temperature process lines where elevated temperature strength is required. Designated as 15Mo3 under DIN 17175, this carbon molybdenum steel carries material number 1.5415, which is also associated with the newer EN 10216-2 16Mo3 tubes designation. Amardeep Steel supplies 15Mo3 pipes and tubes for these high temperature applications. For projects specified to ASTM standards, ASTM A335 P1 pipes are often considered a comparable chromium molybdenum grade, while our range of alloy steel pipes and tubes includes other chrome moly grades for demanding temperature and pressure conditions.
Each order is supplied with mill test certificates, applicable heat treatment records and complete heat traceability for material verification.
What Are 15Mo3 Pipes and Tubes?
DIN 17175 is the German standard for seamless tubes made from heat resistant steels. 15Mo3 is the molybdenum grade in that standard. Its 0.25 to 0.35 percent molybdenum raises strength at high temperature and slows creep, so the tube keeps its shape under pressure and heat for many years.
Because of this, 15Mo3 sits between plain carbon boiler steels and the chrome moly grades. It is used where metal temperatures are too high for carbon steel but not high enough to need chromium.
15Mo3 and 16Mo3: Same Steel, Two Names
DIN 17175 has been withdrawn and replaced by EN 10216-2. When that happened, 15Mo3 was renamed 16Mo3 but kept the same material number, 1.5415. The two are very close in chemistry and strength, although 16Mo3 has tighter limits on phosphorus and sulphur. Many older drawings and maintenance orders still call for 15Mo3, so we supply to the standard named on your order and can advise on 16Mo3 where your engineer approves the change.

For lower temperatures, carbon steel P235GH tubes or P265GH tubes may be enough. Fabricators building vessels in the same steel can also source 16Mo3 plates from us.
Heat Treatment of 15Mo3 Pipes and Tubes
15Mo3 tubes are supplied normalized, typically between 890 and 950 degrees Celsius. Normalizing refines the grain and gives the even structure needed for reliable high temperature strength. Heavy wall tubes may also be tempered after normalizing.
Applications of 15Mo3 Pipes and Tubes
- Water wall, economiser and superheater boiler tubes
- Steam headers and high temperature steam lines
- Refinery and petrochemical heat exchanger tubes
- Pressure piping in power and process plants
- Replacement tubes for older boilers built to DIN standards
Testing and Documentation
Every order of 15Mo3 pipes and tubes goes through the checks below at our testing facility or approved third party labs.
- Chemical analysis of heat and product samples
- Tensile test at room temperature
- Flattening, flaring or ring tests as required
- Hydrostatic test or eddy current test
- Ultrasonic testing on request
- Visual and dimensional inspection
Mill test certificates are issued to EN 10204 3.1, with 3.2 available on request. You can view our approvals on the certificates page.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is 15Mo3 material?
15Mo3 is a carbon molybdenum steel from the German standard DIN 17175, with material number 1.5415. It contains 0.25 to 0.35 percent molybdenum, which gives it good strength at high temperature for boiler and pressure tube service.
Is 15Mo3 the same as 16Mo3?
They are essentially the same steel. When DIN 17175 was replaced by EN 10216-2, 15Mo3 was renamed 16Mo3 and kept the material number 1.5415. 16Mo3 has slightly tighter limits on phosphorus and sulphur.
What is the ASTM equivalent of 15Mo3?
The closest ASTM equivalents are A335 P1 for pipe and A209 T1 for tube. Both are carbon molybdenum steels, but P1 has a higher molybdenum range and lower minimum strength, so they are close matches rather than direct substitutes.
What is 15Mo3 used for?
15Mo3 is used for boiler tubes, superheaters, economisers, steam headers and heat exchanger tubes where metal temperatures are too high for plain carbon steel, typically up to around 450 degrees Celsius.
