C28000 60/40 Muntz Metal Tubes (CuZn40) Supplier and Exporter

C28000 60/40 Muntz Metal Tubes (CuZn40)

Muntz metal is the brass you choose when a part has to be heated and hit. C28000 60/40 Muntz metal tubes carry about 60 parts copper to 40 parts zinc, and on European drawings you will see the same alloy written CuZn40. That much zinc gives the metal a mixed structure, which is why it forges and hot presses so readily and why it costs less than most brasses with a higher copper content.

Amardeep Steel Centre supplies C28000 brass tube from Mumbai, as a Muntz metal tube supplier in India and for export buyers. Send us the outside diameter, wall thickness, length, temper and quantity on our enquiry page and we will tell you what we can ship and when

Application of C28000 60/40 Muntz Metal Tubes

  • Heat exchanger and evaporator tube: Muntz metal heat exchanger tube works in non seawater duty, where the water has been checked and the velocity is moderate.
  • Valve stems and hardware: Parts hot pressed or forged from tube, then finished to size.
  • Hot pressed and forged parts: Blanks and shapes that need the metal to flow under heat.
  • Architectural trim: Rails, tubing and decorative metalwork where the warmer, golden colour of Muntz metal is wanted.
  • Brazing stock: Tube cut and used as filler or as a joined component, since it solders and brazes well.

If your duty involves seawater or fast cooling water, this is the wrong page. See our admiralty brass seamless tube, aluminium brass seamless tube and copper nickel 90 10 pipes and tubes ranges.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is C28000 60/40 Muntz metal tube?

C28000 is Muntz metal, a brass with about 60 per cent copper and 40 per cent zinc, also written CuZn40. Its two phase structure gives it good strength and very good hot forming. It is supplied as tube for heat exchanger work in suitable water, hot pressed parts and hardware.

What does 60/40 mean, and how is it different from 63/37 brass?

The numbers are the nominal copper and zinc percentages. At 40 per cent zinc the alloy has a mixed alpha and beta structure, so it is stronger and hot forms more readily than 63/37 yellow brass. It is less ductile when cold worked, so it suits hot forming more than deep drawing.

Is C28000 lead free?

No. The standard allows lead up to 0.30 per cent maximum, and no lead is added on purpose. It is not sold as lead free brass, and it is not the leaded Muntz metal C36500. For lead restricted work, ask us for a lower lead brass and tell us the regulation you must meet.

What is the difference between Muntz metal and naval brass?

Naval brass has a similar 60 per cent copper base but adds 0.5 to 1.0 per cent tin. The tin slows dezincification, so naval brass holds up better in seawater and marine hardware. Muntz metal has no tin and costs less, so it suits hot forming and dry or mild service.

Is C28000 suitable for seawater or condenser tube?

We do not recommend it for seawater or fast cooling water. With no tin and a two phase structure it can dezincify in many waters. For marine or condenser duty, ask for naval brass, admiralty brass, aluminium brass or copper nickel. Tell us the water and the service, and we will advise.

Which standards cover C28000 tube?

ASTM B135 covers seamless brass tube including C28000, and B111 covers condenser tube and ferrule stock. B251 gives the general requirements, and WW T 791 is the US federal specification. Name the standard and temper on your order so tolerances and tests match your drawing.
