ASTM A672 CA60 EFW pipe is a designation buyers commonly use when referring to 60 ksi electric fusion welded pipe under ASTM A672. Amardeep Steel supplies this strength level in Grade B60, manufactured from A515 Grade 60 plate, and Grade C60, made from A516 Grade 60 plate. For the relevant grade details, see our ASTM A672 CB60 pipes and ASTM A672 C60, C65 and C70 pipes. You can also browse the complete ASTM A672 EFW pipe range for other strength levels. Every order includes plate and weld certificates, radiography reports for the specified class and full heat traceability.
What Is ASTM A672 CA60 EFW Pipe?
ASTM A672 covers electric fusion welded steel pipe, made from pressure vessel plate with a filler metal weld, for high pressure service at moderate temperatures. The grade name tells you the plate: the letter is the plate family and the number is its minimum tensile strength in ksi.
What "CA60" Means in an A672 Order
A672 grades made from A285 plate run A45, A50 and A55, because A285 Grade C at 55 ksi is the strongest A285 plate. There is no A285 plate at 60 ksi, so a 60 ksi order is met with B60 or C60. The "C" prefix comes from ASTM A671, where the same plates are called CB60 and CC60. Tell us which plate your drawing names, or we will advise.

B60 or C60: Which One to Order
Both have the same strength. B60 uses coarse grain A515 plate, intended for intermediate and higher temperatures. C60 uses fine grain A516 plate, which gives better notch toughness at moderate and lower temperatures and is the more common choice today.
A672 Pipe Classes Explained
Class (first digit) | Heat Treatment on Pipe | Class (second digit) | Weld Radiography and Pressure Test |
|---|---|---|---|
1x | None | x0 | Neither |
2x | Stress relieved | x1 | Radiography only |
3x | Normalized | x2 | Radiography and pressure test |
4x | Normalized and tempered | x3 | Pressure test only |
5x | Quenched and tempered |
Classes ending in 2 include full radiography and a hydrostatic test, which lets designers use a weld joint factor of 1.0 under ASME B31.3.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is ASTM A672 CA60 pipe?
ASTM A672 CA60 is the name commonly used for 60 ksi electric fusion welded pipe under ASTM A672. The specification supplies it as Grade B60 (A515 Grade 60 plate) or Grade C60 (A516 Grade 60 plate), both with a tensile strength of 415 to 550 MPa.
Why is CA60 supplied as B60 or C60?
A672 grades from A285 plate stop at A55, because A285 Grade C is 55 ksi. The 60 ksi level in A672 is made from A515 or A516 plate, which gives Grades B60 and C60.
What is the difference between A672 B60 and C60?
Both have a 415 to 550 MPa tensile range and 220 MPa minimum yield. B60 uses coarse grain A515 plate for higher temperatures; C60 uses fine grain A516 plate with better toughness at lower temperatures.
What classes are available for A672 CA60 pipe?
Common classes are 12, 22 and 32. Classes ending in 2 include full weld radiography and a hydrostatic test.
