ASTM A672 CB60 EFW pipe is manufactured from ASTM A515 Grade 60 plate and is used for high pressure service at moderate temperatures. Under ASTM A672, this strength level is designated as Grade B60, while CB60 is a designation many buyers use when referring to the same grade. Amardeep Steel supplies this grade with the required plate and weld documentation. For fine grain plate at the same strength level, see our ASTM A672 C60, C65 and C70 pipes. For the next strength level, refer to our ASTM A672 CB65 pipes. You can also browse the complete ASTM A672 EFW pipe range. Every order includes plate and weld certificates, radiography reports and full heat traceability.
Every order comes with plate and weld certificates, radiography reports for the ordered class and full heat traceability.
What Is ASTM A672 CB60 EFW Pipe?
ASTM A672 covers electric fusion welded steel pipe, made from pressure vessel plate with a filler metal weld, for high pressure service at moderate temperatures. The grade name tells you the plate: the letter is the plate family and the number is its minimum tensile strength in ksi.
A672 CB60 and B60: One Grade, Two Names
A672 names this grade B60: B for A515 plate and 60 for its tensile strength in ksi. ASTM A671 adds a C prefix and calls pipe from the same plate CB60. The plate and the strength are the same; the specification you order to sets the service and testing rules. For A672 orders the certificate will show Grade B60.

A672 Pipe Classes Explained
Class (first digit) | Heat Treatment on Pipe | Class (second digit) | Weld Radiography and Pressure Test |
|---|---|---|---|
1x | None | x0 | Neither |
2x | Stress relieved | x1 | Radiography only |
3x | Normalized | x2 | Radiography and pressure test |
4x | Normalized and tempered | x3 | Pressure test only |
5x | Quenched and tempered |
Classes ending in 2 include full radiography and a hydrostatic test, which lets designers use a weld joint factor of 1.0 under ASME B31.3.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is ASTM A672 CB60 pipe?
ASTM A672 CB60 is electric fusion welded pipe made from ASTM A515 Grade 60 plate. A672 lists it as Grade B60. It has a tensile strength of 415 to 550 MPa and a minimum yield of 220 MPa.
Is A672 CB60 the same as A672 B60?
Yes. Both refer to A672 pipe from A515 Grade 60 plate. B60 is the name in the A672 grade table; CB60 follows the A671 naming style.
What plate is used for A672 CB60?
A672 CB60 pipe is made from ASTM A515 / A515M Grade 60, a coarse grain carbon silicon plate intended for intermediate and higher temperature service.
What is the difference between A672 CB60 and C60?
Both have the same strength. CB60 uses coarse grain A515 plate for higher temperatures; C60 uses fine grain A516 plate with better toughness at lower temperatures.
