UNS S32001 welded pipes and tubes are a lean duplex stainless steel grade suited to applications that need higher strength with lower nickel content. Also known as 19D, UNS S32001 contains about 20% chromium and 1% to 3% nickel, with manganese and nitrogen used in place of much of the nickel found in conventional stainless steels. Its 450 MPa minimum yield strength is significantly higher than 304L, while its corrosion resistance is at or above that of 304L. Amardeep Steel supplies UNS S32001 welded pipes and tubes to ASTM A789 and A790. Compare them with our UNS S32101 welded pipes and tubes and SS 304L pipes and tubes, or browse all duplex steel pipes and tubes. Every order includes an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate and full heat traceability.
What Are UNS S32001 Welded Pipes and Tubes?
S32001 was developed as a low cost duplex for uses that would otherwise take 304L. Its low nickel and molybdenum make its price far less sensitive to nickel prices, while its duplex structure doubles the strength and improves resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking. It is not meant for strong acids or high chloride service, where 2205 is the better choice.
Supply Standards for S32001 Tube
Welded S32001 tube is supplied to ASTM A789 and welded pipe to ASTM A790, with strip to ASTM A240. Tube and pipe are solution annealed after welding. Confirm the standard and edition on your order.

304L vs S32001 vs S32101
Property | 304L | S32001 | S32101 |
|---|---|---|---|
Chromium | 18 to 20% | 19.5 to 21.5% | 21.0 to 22.0% |
Nickel | 8 to 13% | 1.0 to 3.0% | 1.35 to 1.70% |
Molybdenum | Not specified | 0.60 max | 0.10 to 0.80% |
Nitrogen | Not specified | 0.05 to 0.17% | 0.20 to 0.25% |
Min. yield strength | 170 MPa | 450 MPa | 450 MPa (530 MPa thin wall) |
PREN (spec range) | 18.0 to 20.0 | 20.3 to 26.2 | 24.5 to 28.6 |
PREN is worked out as Cr + 3.3 Mo + 16 N, using the minimum and maximum of each specified range. Yield values are ASTM A790 and ASTM A312 minimums.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is UNS S32001?
UNS S32001 (19D) is a lean duplex stainless steel with 19.5% to 21.5% chromium, 1% to 3% nickel, 4% to 6% manganese and 0.05% to 0.17% nitrogen.
What is the difference between S32001 and S32101?
Both are low nickel lean duplex grades. S32101 has more chromium and nitrogen, which gives better pitting resistance. S32001 allows more nickel but less nitrogen.
Which standards cover S32001 welded tube?
ASTM A789 covers welded tube and ASTM A790 covers welded pipe. Strip is supplied to ASTM A240.
What is the minimum yield strength of S32001?
S32001 has a 450 MPa (65 ksi) minimum yield strength and 620 MPa (90 ksi) minimum tensile strength.
