Stainless Steel 416 seamless tubes and hollows (UNS S41600, EN 1.4005) are made for applications where machining is a major part of the job. This 13% chromium stainless steel contains added sulfur, giving it excellent free machining characteristics and making it well suited for producing bushes, shafts, valve parts and other machined components directly from tube. Amardeep Steel supplies SS 416 seamless tubes and hollows with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates, heat treatment records and complete heat traceability. What Are Stainless Steel 416 Seamless Pipes & Tubes?
Grade 416 is a martensitic stainless steel based on 410 with at least 0.15% sulfur. The sulfur forms manganese sulfides that break chips cleanly during machining. The trade off is lower corrosion resistance, weldability and toughness than 410.
How 416 Seamless Tube Is Produced
ASTM covers 416 as free machining bar under A582, and no ASTM tube specification lists it. Seamless 416 tube is produced to drawing, usually as hollow bar or bored bar, and is mainly bought for machined parts rather than pressure piping. Tell us the finished part dimensions and we will advise on the hollow size.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Stainless Steel 416?
Stainless Steel 416 (UNS S41600, EN 1.4005) is a free machining martensitic stainless steel with 12 to 14% chromium and at least 0.15% sulfur.
Why is 416 easy to machine?
Its added sulfur forms manganese sulfides that break chips during cutting, making 416 the most machinable stainless steel.
Can 416 stainless steel be welded?
Welding 416 is not recommended because the sulfur causes hot cracking. Use 410 or 410S for welded parts.
Is there an ASTM tube specification for 416?
No. ASTM covers 416 as bar under A582. Seamless 416 tube and hollows are produced to drawing.
