Titanium Grade 16 tubes (UNS R52402) are made to ASTM B338 in seamless and welded form for service that needs more crevice corrosion resistance than Grade 2. Grade 16 is essentially Grade 2 titanium with 0.04% to 0.08% palladium, around one third of the palladium content used in Grade 7. This addition improves resistance in hot chloride environments and reducing acids, making Grade 16 a practical alternative to Grade 7 when material cost is also a consideration. Amardeep Steel supplies Titanium Grade 16 tubes with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates and full heat traceability. What Are Titanium Grade 16 Tubes?
Palladium makes titanium far more resistant to crevice corrosion and to reducing acids such as dilute hydrochloric and sulphuric acid. Grade 16 was developed as a lower palladium version of Grade 7, keeping most of the corrosion benefit while cutting cost. Its strength matches Grade 2.
Grade 16 or Grade 7?
Grade 7 (0.12% to 0.25% Pd) remains the choice for the most aggressive hot reducing service. Grade 16 suits most hot brine and chloride duties where Grade 2 would suffer crevice attack, at lower cost. Where palladium cost is the concern and service is milder, Grade 12 is another option.
