Stainless Steel 442 seamless pipes and tubes are made from UNS S44200, a high chromium ferritic stainless steel developed for elevated temperature service. With 18% to 23% chromium, the grade offers good resistance to oxidation and scaling when exposed to heat. Its chromium content places it between our SS 430 tubes and TP446 pipes and tubes. Amardeep Steel supplies Stainless Steel 442 seamless pipes and tubes for applications where heat resistance is an important requirement. For other stainless steel grades, you can browse our SS seamless pipes and tubes range. Every order includes mill test certificates to EN 10204 3.1 and full heat traceability.
What Are Stainless Steel 442 Seamless Pipes and Tubes?
Grade 442 is a straight chromium ferritic stainless steel. Its 18% to 23% chromium gives better resistance to scaling in hot air and furnace gases than 430, while staying magnetic and free of nickel. Like other high chromium ferritic grades it has limited toughness at low temperature and is not used for cryogenic or heavy impact service.
Supply Standards for 442 Tube
Plate, sheet and strip in 442 are covered by ASTM A176, and welded tube by IS 17876 in India. Seamless 442 tube is produced to the purchase specification, using ASTM A268 general requirements where the buyer specifies them. Confirm the governing standard with your enquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Stainless Steel 442?
Stainless Steel 442 (UNS S44200) is a ferritic stainless steel with 18% to 23% chromium and up to 0.20% carbon, used for oxidation and scaling resistance at elevated temperature.
What is the difference between SS 430 and SS 442?
SS 442 has more chromium (18 to 23% against 16 to 18%), which gives better resistance to scaling in hot air and furnace gases.
Is SS 442 magnetic?
Yes. SS 442 is a ferritic stainless steel and is magnetic.
Which standard covers SS 442 seamless tube?
Seamless 442 tube is supplied to the purchase specification. ASTM A176 covers 442 plate, sheet and strip, and IS 17876 covers welded 442 tube in India.
