Oval stud welded elliptical stud tubes are resistance welded heat-transfer tubes comprised of an oval base tube and oval studs. They are applied in boiler, waste-heat-recovery and heat-exchanger services where the geometry of the studies and the layout of the tubes is determined by the heat-transfer surface and gas-side flow conditions. That elliptical profile may have less flow disturbance on the gas side than a similar round stud arrangement but the actual pressure drop reduction is dependent on tube geometry, pitch, gas velocity and the design of the exchanger.
